We talk a lot about companies that want to go green and become a sustainable business. We’ve talked about Henkel, GE, Wal-Mart and others. The move to becoming a green business does not happen in a day but the transition to becoming a green company needs the expertise of the entire company. Some companies produce eco-friendly products and others focus on making their operations more eco-friendly. And almost always these steps towards a more eco-friendly company are accompanied with greater transparency, or at least should be.

Today we highlight another company that has made some efforts to go green – Dunder Mifflin. With their new eco-friendly slogan “As Green As We Have to Be” they have avoided any greenwashing by being frank with their true objectives. They have also adopted a more transparent business to accompany their green efforts. On the green page of their corporate website –
Dumder Mifflin is committed to improving the environment. That’s why we plant a tree for each and every metric ton of paper that we ship. We look at it as an investment in the future because without trees, we have no paper and without paper, we have no business.”

The company has even introduced measures that change the daily consumption habits of their employees by introducing programs like the “one cup per day” policy in their Scranton branch of only using one cup at the watercooler.
As Dunder Mifflin wraps up its statement regarding their efforts to be more of a green business they throw out a challenge to those companies sitting on the fence –
“Just because we’re a paper company, it doesn’t mean we’re not as green as everyone else. Join us as we try to make the world a better place while not simultaneously running us out of our own buiness.”
